SIGNS OF SPRING, by
First Line: When the nearest hills choose pastel green
Last Line: It's spring.
Subject(s): Insects; Spring; Bugs

When the nearest hills choose pastel green
Negligees to cover their winter's nakedness,
And dogwood trees in clear relief are seen
Unfolding robes of white brocade with recklessness
Against the rosebuds' pink misty veils;
When violets, their heads of purple, raise,
To hunt delicately tinted arbutus trails;
And wild azaleas set the forest ablaze
Where flower-kissed butterflies flit by;
When honey-bees sipping from pools of sweetness sing,
And thunder-clouds amass the western sky;
When loveliness seems to pierce the soul --
It's spring.
