EAMONN AN CHNUIC, by ANONYMOUS First Line: Now who is without Last Line: Where strangers are kinder than kin! Subject(s): Country Life | ||||||||
"Now who is without With a heart-piercing shout Beating my bolted door?" "I am Ned of the Hill, Wet, weary and chill From long walking the mountain-side o'er." "Oh, bright love and dear, What could I do here But cover you up with my gown? While shots thick and true They rained upon you, Till together in death we went down!" "Not a comrade I know, As I desolate go Out under the snow and the frost; My team loose from the yoke, My fallows unbroke, My land to be evermore lost." "Not a friend have I got-- I am heavy for that-- Late or early to take Eamonn in; And so I must flee East over the sea, Where strangers are kinder than kin!" | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE TARIFF by GEORGE HENRY BOKER A DRIVE IN THE COUNTRY by TED KOOSER THERE IS ALWAYS A LITTLE WIND by TED KOOSER COUNTRYSIDE by JOSEPHINE MILES TIS A LITTLE JOURNEY by ANONYMOUS |
