SAID Bassompierre, "When I in Spain abode,
Sire, on a mule in cavalcade I rode:"
The King to his Ambassador replied,
"An ass then fat upon a mule astride;"
"Sire!" he retorted, "what you say is true,
When at Madrid I represented you."
