THE GUNPOWDER PLOT, by ANONYMOUS First Line: "remember, remember" Last Line: And a jolly good bonfire to roast him Subject(s): Gunpowder Plot;mnemonics; Guy Fawkes | ||||||||
Remember, remember The fifth of November, The Gunpowder Treason and Plot; I see no reason why gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot. A stick and a stake For George's sake So please remember the bonfire. Fifty barrels lay below To blow old England's overthrow. With a dark lantern and a lighted match That's the way old Guy was catch. Holler, boys, holler; make the bells ring! Holler, boys, holler; God save the King! A rope! a rope! to hang the Pope, A slice of cheese to choke him, A gallon of beer to drink his health And a jolly good bonfire to roast him. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UPON THE GUNPOWDER TREASON (1) by RICHARD CRASHAW UPON THE GUNPOWDER TREASON (2) by RICHARD CRASHAW UPON THE POWDER DAY by RICHARD CRASHAW EPIGRAM: TO WILLIAM, LORD MONTEAGLE by BEN JONSON ECCLESIASTICAL SONNETS: PART 2: 42.
