WINTER SONG, by
First Line: Winter wakeneth all my care
Last Line: Nor how long I here may dwell!
Subject(s): Winter

WINTER wakeneth all my care,
Now the boughs be waxen bare,
Oft I sigh, and mourn full sair
When it cometh in my thought
How this world's joy doth go to naught!

Now it is, and now 't is not,
As it ne'er had been, I wot,
Many a man this word hath got:
"Naught endureth save God's Will --"
That we must die doth please us ill.

What afore was fresh and green
Now doth fade and fail, I ween,
Jesu, let Thine Help be seen,
Shield us all from Hell --
For where I go I may not know,
Nor how long I here may dwell!
