TWO STREETS by EMMETT MALOY COUNTS

First Line: TODAY, WHILE WALKING THROUGH A HARDENED STREET
Last Line: TODAY I WALKED UPON A VELVET STREET.
Subject(s): ASPHALT; STREETS; WALKING; WANDERING & WANDERERS; CONCRETE; PAVEMENTS; AVENUES; WANDERLUST; VAGABONDS; TRAMPS; HOBOES;

Today, while walking through a hardened street,
Made so by faces I saw in it
And by the walls that flank and pin it
And by the pavement underneath my feet,
There came an interval when I should meet
A group of children gathered round it—
An injured pigeon—where they found it ...
Today I walked upon a velvet street.
