FAITH by E. DEVILLIERS-HERTZLER

First Line: IF I COULD LAY MY HEAD UPON YOUR HEART
Last Line: IF I COULD LAY MY HEAD UPON YOUR HEART!
Subject(s): COMFORT; LOVE; STRENGTH; WEARINESS; FATIGUE;

If I could lay my head upon your heart
Beloved, 'twould soothe the sting
Of failure—
And I could gather courage for the weary years—
If I could lay my head upon your heart!

If I could lay my head upon your heart
Tonight, dear, 'twould ease the pain
Of disillusionment—
And I could quaff Life's hemlock with a smile—
If I could lay my head upon your heart!
