The kitten has had an adventure. Bold He went by himself to the end of the yard, All down the long path by the sunflower's gold; He ventured alone without me to guard. He fled from a shadow and chased a bee, He caught a locust and a big black cricket; A bluejay threatened from up in a tree, And he saw a squirrel in the hazel thicket. He met a toad by the little toy creek, He saw three moths and captured one; Then came back home my shoulder to seek, Proud in the knowledge of brave deeds done. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE LOVER IN HELL by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET MOTHER (MARGERY CARRUTH, 1896-1981) by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE LEAVES OF THE TREE HIDE THE SUN by DAVID IGNATOW A PLANTATION BACCHANAL by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON SURFACES AND MASKS; 30 by CLARENCE MAJOR A LETTER TO A POLICEMAN IN KANSAS CITY by KENNETH PATCHEN |
