TO ONE BEREAVED by ETHEL KNIGHT FISHER

First Line: MY DEAR, I KNOW YOU UNDERSTOOD
Last Line: WERE WRITTEN ON MY FACE.
Subject(s): GRIEF; SYMPATHY; SORROW; SADNESS; EMPATHY;

My dear, I know you understood
My sympathetic touch;
The spoken word is apt to say
Too little or too much.
Your silent grief was eloquent,
I held you for a space,
And all the words my tongue would speak
Were written on my face.
