SIOUX SONGS: A FLYING HORSE (THE SPOTTED HORSE) by AGNES KENDRICK GRAY

First Line: FRIEND LIKE A FLYING BIRD IS MY HORSE
Last Line: LIKE A THUNDERBIRD STREAKED WITH THE LIGHTNING HE FLIES!
Subject(s): ANIMALS; HORSES; NATIVE AMERICANS; INDIANS OF AMERICA; AMERICAN INDIANS; INDIANS OF SOUTH AMERICA;

Friend, like a flying bird is my horse,
Like a flying bird is my horse as we run
Hunting the wild herds over the sage,
Over the trampled sage in the sun!

Swifter than buffalo, swifter than deer,
My spotted horse, painted with sacred dyes;
With the speed of a swallow he ranges the plain,
Like a Thunderbird streaked with the lightning he flies!
