YOU by KATE CRICHTON GREDLER

First Line: TO YOU, MY DEAR, I NEVER WRITE
Last Line: BY RULE OF THUMB.
Subject(s): WRITING & WRITERS;

To you, my dear, I never write
Such lines as others can incite.
I know not why, unless it be
You are so deeply part of me
I'd sooner bring to casual light
My heart-beat's pendulum.
As easily, I think I might
Reroute the swallow's homeward flight
Or pen new words to the thrush's song,
Deny these hours of parting long
Or prove reunion sweet delight
By rule of thumb.
