APRIL IN THE DESERT by SUDIE STUART HAGER

First Line: MY HEART TURNS GRATEFULLY TO YOU
Last Line: WITH YOU I SEE THE SPRING!
Subject(s): APRIL; DESERTS; FOOD & EATING;

My heart turns gratefully to you
Now April's come around;
You said: "The desert has a charm
When soft green tints the ground."

You worked love's magic on my eyes;
I saw so much to praise!
I felt the lure of barren lands,
Those pastel April days.

Clear yellow of the prickly pear,
Dawn-pink of creeping phlox,
The blue-bell's shimmering, sky-washed hue,
Pale mauve of crumbling rocks.

Rich valleys called you from these plains --
My heart still bears the sting --
But April always brings you back;
With you I see the Spring!
