AFTER IKKYU: 33 by JAMES HARRISON

Poet Analysis

First Line: I HAVEN'T ACCEPTED THE FACT THAT I'LL NEVER UNDERSTAND
Last Line: SADDLE NOW BRINGS TEARS OF DOUBT.
Subject(s): MEMORY;

I haven't accepted the fact that I'll never understand
the universe that I saw clearly for the first time
from our roof at nineteen in miniature @3kensho.@1
We belonged to each other. Love at first sight,
notwithstanding the child who stared in fear
at the northern lights and noted the Milky Way's convulsive
drift. A lone star perched on the mountain's
saddle now brings tears of doubt.
