WORKS AND DAYS: SPENDING AND SPARING by HESIOD

First Line: WHEN THE JAR IS JUST BEGUN
Last Line: OF THE LEES.
Subject(s): DRINKS & DRINKING; WINE;

WHEN the jar is just begun,
When the jar is nearly done,
Drink at ease;
Halfway down it, drink with care;
'Tis poor husbandry to spare
Of the lees.
