WELCOME, dear dawn of summer's rising sway, Fair fav'rite of the year! soul-soft'ning May! Late I have learned, by love's sweet queen inspired, Why from my youth this day my bosom fired: 'Twas for her birth that blooming nature sprung, 'Twas in her notes the sky's soft rangers sung! The breeze blew soft to sigh her soul's sweet frame, And the boughs bent in homage to her name. Thick shot the meads, to paint her fruitful mind, And flow'rs, that rolled her breath, enriched the wind. For her, the sun waked out to bless our isle, And lighted up half heav'n, to paint her smile: Oh! we are lovers all! our Celia reigns, And the warmed world is sick with my sweet pains. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE ENGLISH GRAVEYARD IN MALACCA by KAREN SWENSON MARTHY VIRGINIA'S HAND [SEPTEMBER 17, 1862] by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP LEFT BEHIND by ELIZABETH AKERS ALLEN AN AUTUMN NIGHT by JOHANNA AMBROSIUS TWO SONNETS FROM NEW YORK: QUESTIONS by ADELAIDE NICHOLS BAKER S.
