THE LONG TRAIL: OUTWARD BOUND by ELIZABETH SEWELL HILL

First Line: OUT ON THE LONG TRAIL. THE FOAM DRIFTS BACK
Last Line: THESE PIONEERS.
Subject(s): PIONEERS; ROADS; PATHS; TRAILS;

Out on the long trail. The foam drifts back
With the dim shore-line down the out-bound track
Over greener waters lifting on ahead
To the watching bridge and the plunging lead;
To the wheel's sure turn and the answering screw,
With the chart's new stars lifting on the blue;
Out to fair new shores with their fathers' God,
To tread out new paths as their fathers trod—
These pioneers.
