AUGUST by ERNA E. HOEFS

First Line: THE MONTH THAT RESTS UPON THE EARTH
Last Line: THE PROMISE MADE BY SPRING.
Subject(s): AUGUST;

The month that rests upon the earth
As a brightly burnished link
Between the summer and the fall;
When the year has paused to think

And dream about sweet labors past,
Of achievement and of gain --
Its gift to man from field and vine,
The abundant fruit and grain.

The month that makes a golden song
Which grateful hearts may sing,
For August brings fulfillment of
The promise made by spring.
