A CHARACTER by WILLIAM BRIAN HOOKER

First Line: THE HEART OF LIFE IS HID FROM HIM
Last Line: THE HEART OF LIFE IS HID FROM HIM.

The heart of life is hid from him:
He has no ear for overtones,
No eye for blended hues or dim.
Therefore he gives a name to each,
Dockets our laughter and our moans,
And hastens forth to judge and teach --
The heart of life is hid from him.
