THE SHIP by IBN SAFAR

First Line: AH, BUT COULD YOUR EYES
Last Line: HER WING OVER HER BROOD.

Ah, but could your eyes
Have seen that ship ... The boys
And their ringing cries,
Exultant joy's

Eloquence; a ring
They sat beneath the mast;
Winecup glittering
Hand to hand they passed...

Surely you would have said
The swan, fearing the rude
Tempest, yearning, spread
Her wing over her brood.
