LA FEUILLE by KATHARINE A. JENKINS

First Line: OUT OF AUTUMN YOU CAME
Last Line: A DEAD LEAF ON THE FLOOR.
Subject(s): DEATH; DEAD, THE;

Out of autumn you came
To me, one wind swept day;
To sit within my house,
To watch my fire play.

We scarcely spoke at all,
Your silence seemed to fill
My room with something sweet,
My restless soul grew still.

Today I heard you knock,
And went and threw the door
Quite wide, but only found
A dead leaf on the floor.
