AT CHURCH by CORA BABBITT JOHNSON

First Line: THE PREACHER PREACHED FROM A PULPIT
Last Line: AND I KNEW THAT GOD LIVED THERE.
Subject(s): CHURCHES; GOD; PREACHING & PREACHERS; RELIGION; CATHEDRALS; THEOLOGY;

The preacher preached from a pulpit,
His voice was deep and loud;
But I looked out through the window
And saw God wrapped in a cloud.

The singer sang some printed words
Out of a paper book;
But I heard God in the trees outside
Talking with the brook.

The house was God's holy temple,
We read it in a prayer;
But I looked into a baby's eyes
And I knew that God lived there.
