CROSSING A CREEK by HERBERT CLARK JOHNSON

First Line: HE WHO HAS ROLLED HIS PANTS UP TO HIS KNEE
Last Line: AGAINST HIS BODY, EVEN IN HIS DREAMS.

He who has rolled his pants up to his knee
And walked a lowland creek from bank to bank
Has mixed his pulse with that of land and sea.
And though, in after days, he cross his streams
By bridge or log, he'll always feel its beat
Against his body, even in his dreams.
