The house stood out-lined harsh against the sky, No architect's device to beautify Nor soften its austere and ugly mien! And sternly-visaged folk within its walls Imparted to the place the gloom that palls. As dreary aspect as was ever seen! But down around the house there came in sight, In Spring, a perfect vision of delight Gay blooms, reward of woman's loving care Transformed the place.
