I saw a northern iceberg go Through Arctic's all-eternal snow. 'Twas driven south by wintry blast And came to southern climes at last. Then tropic sun, with magic art, Thawed and warmed its icy heart. I saw a human iceberg go Through stormy seas of human woe, And all bright thoughts of love and life Were crushed and killed by selfish strife. The love of homes and friends could not The sordid things of nature blot; So cold and lone he always sought The things his egoism bought.
