SUN ON THE ROCKIES by EDNA SWANSON KING

First Line: THE LONG WHITE FINGERS OF THE DAWN
Last Line: ERE NIGHT ITS MANTLE OF DARKNESS SPREADS.
Subject(s): ROCKY MOUNTAIN RANGE; SUN;

The long white fingers of the dawn
Reach forth, and from earth is withdrawn
The deep dark blanket of the night,
Transforming the world with golden light
Of rising sun, stopped still in wonder
As it salutes the Rockies yonder,
Who fadeless, matchless, undimmed stand,
Great, mighty sentinels of the land.

Upon its bright, emblazoned way,
The sun goes forth to close of day,
And as it sinks into the west,
Over the mountains that it loves best,
A halo of benediction sheds,
Ere night its mantle of darkness spreads.
