CHIAROSCURO by SALLY BRUCE KINSOLVING

First Line: BEAUTY WAS DISROBING
Last Line: FROM THE GARDEN OF JUNE.
Subject(s): BEAUTY; FLOWERS; LILIES; NUDITY; NAKEDNESS;

Beauty was disrobing
Against a shadowed wall --
Her body was as white
As the shadows were tall.

I could only think
Of lilies in a pool --
White jessamine, gardenias
On leaves dark and cool;

Or the curved petal
Of a little white moon,
Plucked by night
From the garden of June.
