FROM MAINE by ANITA GAEBLER KNIGHT

First Line: CARRIED FROM COAST LINE
Last Line: LIKE AN EMPTY SHELL, REGRETFULLY.
Subject(s): MAINE (STATE); SHELLS; CONCHOLOGY;

Carried from coast line,
Married by hills,
I shir the ruffles
Each comber spills
Into the shallow, rockbound pools,
Biting my thread from sea-chest spools.

He never suspects I am clad in foam
Who loves me to love his mountain home,
Nor that, held close, I hum the sea
Like an empty shell, regretfully.
