GIFTS by CHARLES TRUEMAN LANHAM

First Line: YOU WHO HAVE GIVEN ME GLADNESS
Last Line: WHEN I AM GROWN OLD.
Subject(s): GIFTS & GIVING; HAPPINESS; JOY; DELIGHT;

You who have given me gladness
Have given me little to keep . . .
A breath more than white-lipped madness
And a handful of sleep.

But you who came to me bringing
Soft-shadowed sorrow to hold,
Have given me songs for my singing
When I am grown old.
