IN THE BEAUTIFUL by GRACE DENIO LITCHFIELD

First Line: BE STILL. BE STILL. DO NOT SPEAK
Last Line: OR STAY—AND BE STILL!
Subject(s): HEARTS; LOVE - LOSS OF; SOLITUDE; LONELINESS;

BE still. Be still. Do not speak.
The charm of the hour,
Fallen soft as a tear on a cheek,
Holds me dumb in its power.

Be still, oh, be still! Speech were pain
In a moment like this.
Call me not earthward again,
E'en with a kiss.

Leave me alone with my heart,
To tremble and thrill.
Oh, leave me before the tears start.
Or stay—and be still!
