YOU WERE DIVULGED FROM FOREST SHADE by HANIEL (CLARK) LONG

Poet Analysis

First Line: YOU WERE DIVULGED FROM FOREST SHADE
Last Line: OF ALL THE OTHER BIRDS.

You were divulged from forest shade,
Who bore you but the vine?
It was the fountains that betrayed,
The stars that made you mine.

You, who enamoured of the moon
Linger to comfort me,
Whose eyes are brighter than the moon,
More agile than the sea.

Approaching softly with the dawn,
You sing your heart in words
Which make too poor the mating song
Of all the other birds.
