It was almost spring today -- For I heard Spring, as a jaunty bird With a breast of rusty red Sang with a tilted head. And I saw The sun grow warm and draw Into the light a blade From sleep in winter's shade. But a boy Came with his Christmas toy And left the bird of red Silenced with rigid head. Then came a gust To whirl away the dust, And the clouds drew near to place A cloth of starry lace. It was almost spring today -- But now the blade And the bird in the glade Are in God's watchful keep While they have another sleep. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DOMESDAY BOOK: CONSIDER FREELAND by EDGAR LEE MASTERS BUCOLIC COMEDY: SPRING by EDITH SITWELL |
