THE PLAYMATE by WINIFRED LUCAS

First Line: FOR THEE THINE OWN SELF GROWS TO BE
Last Line: A STRANGER OF THE CHILD.
Subject(s): FRIENDSHIP; TIME;

FOR thee thine own self grows to be
A playmate close and mild.
Ah, love him not too well! For see,
How briefly reconciled,
How loosely knit, go Life and he,
How slenderly beguiled!
For Time will surely make for thee
A stranger of the child.
