BELLS by ISABEL ECCLESTONE MACKAY

First Line: I HEAR THE BELLS RING EVERY DAY
Last Line: IS GLAD TO HAVE THEM THERE.
Subject(s): BELLS; CHURCHES; PUBLIC WORSHIP; SABBATH; CATHEDRALS; CHURCH ATTENDANCE; SUNDAY;

I HEAR the bells ring every day,
With voices large and round,
But when they ring on Sunday
They have a Sunday-sound.
Nobody seems to know just why—
I think perhaps the air,
So full of shining emptiness,
Is glad to have them there.
