I Thanks be to God for golden afterglory The rich effulgent flood at set of sun; For the hour of hushed intensive beauty Enveloping the world when day is done. Up the wide arc of sky the colors tremble, Roseate and primrose, bossed with amethyst, Sea-water green, and over all a splendor, A diaphane of lucent golden mist. II Thanks be to God for golden afterglory When the web of life is almost spun, For peace serene, when just beyond the sunset The last goal waits the race so nearly run. When the long day of life is near its sunset, When eyes are dim, and steps are falteringslow When old hearts wait courageously the morrow, Thanks be to God for life's bright afterglow. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CAMPUS SONNET: MAY MORNING by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET MY HAPPINESS by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON ROMANCE by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON SUPREME by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON DAT GAL O' MINE by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON AGING TOGETHER by CLARENCE MAJOR |
