A MODERN PREACHER by FREDERIC ROWLAND MARVIN

First Line: HE WAS A PREACHER OF THE MODERN SORT
Last Line: AND WELL REPORTED IN THE DAILY PRESS.
Subject(s): CHURCHES; CLERGY; RELIGIOUS PRESS; SERMONS; SPEECH; CATHEDRALS; PRIESTS; RABBIS; MINISTERS; BISHOPS; ORATORY; ORATORS;

HE was a preacher of the modern sort,—
One third religious and two thirds a sport;
On Sunday preaching best to fill the pews,
A little Gospel and more human views;
His sermons spiced with lively "storm and stress,"
And well reported in the daily press.
