THESE DO NOT DIE by CLYDE MCGEE

First Line: NOW DAY IS BRIGHT AT DAWNING
Last Line: ARE HOPES THAT DO NOT DIE.
Subject(s): HOPE; OPTIMISM;

Now day is bright at dawning,
Now sun creeps under the hill;
Now every bush is speaking,
Now every voice is still.

Now violets bloom in woodlands,
Now roses' petals fall;
Now ladders reach the cloud lands,
And now no sky at all.

Now children shout in playing,
Now age draws painful breath;
Now men are brothers, builders,
And now they war to death.

And so 'mid tears and laughter
Our numbered years go by,
But deep within our human hearts
Are hopes that do not die.
