THE SPIDER WEB by JANET B. MONTGOMERY MCGOVERN

First Line: TO-NIGHT I AM VERY HAPPY
Last Line: I HAVE TAKEN LONG IN THE SPINNING.
Subject(s): INSECTS; SPIDERS; WEARINESS; BUGS; FATIGUE;

TO-NIGHT I am very happy;
As happy as the spider
Who succeeds after many attempts
In reaching the door-post with his silken thread.
They tell me I cannot live till morning.
The thread of my soul will reach at last
The other half of me,
Who has waited so long on the other side.
Is she weary?
I have taken long in the spinning.
