AVE MARIA by MAY MCKEE

First Line: THE SORROWS OF THE YEARS
Last Line: A REMINISCENT MARTYR CAST IN BURNING BRASS.
Subject(s): MARTYRS;

The sorrows of the years
Sat in her eyes and smiled.
Her wise, red mouth
Remembered tears.
Blue shadows slid along her fair
White face—
Ran burning through her jet-drenched hair.
She gazed, a weary-eyed Madonna,
From stained glass—
A reminiscent martyr cast in burning brass.
