MONODY by MAY MCKEE

First Line: MY SOUL IS A SMALL, BLACK ISLAND WASHED BY THE SEA
Last Line: WHEN WILL ITS RESTLESS FINGERS REACH MY HEART ...
Subject(s): FEAR; INTROSPECTION; SELF; SOLITUDE; SOUL; LONELINESS;

My soul is a small, black island washed by the sea—
My heart a cold, white stone against its blackness.
I have known white waves and clear green tears—and endless moonlight.
I have remembered careless ships and storms that passed
Leaving me to my still loneliness—and fear.

When will my soul be broken by the bold beat of the sea—
When will its restless fingers reach my heart ...
