FALSE SPRING by POLLY MCKIBBEN

First Line: AH, THOSE DECEPTIVE SPRINGTIME DAYS IN FALL
Last Line: A RHAPSODY OF BLOSSOMTIME AGAIN!
Subject(s): SPRING;

Ah, those deceptive springtime days in fall,
Which flower in a pilgrimage of grace,
To crown fulfillment for a transient space
With glory for the one who heeds that call;
While rich emotion climbs the highest wall,
To press a kiss on summer's gamin-face,
And hide rare trickery mid autumn lace,
False spring, quite unconfused, reigns over all.

When winter comes a May-day's hard to find,
But autumn bears a flash-back to the spring,
So precious in its brevity -- and then
The human heart gives up its key to bind
An April dream, which rises up to sing
A rhapsody of blossomtime again!
