IN THE OLD STONE AGE: CONFLICT 'TWIXT MAN AND BEAST by JACK MELONE

First Line: OFTEN, BEFORE THE FOE WAS DOWNED
Last Line: AS BENGAL TIGER NE'ER HAS MATCHED!
Subject(s): ANIMALS; CATS; HUNTING; TIGERS; HUNTERS;

Often, before the foe was downed,
Three or four hunters also fell
As roaring with prodigious sound,
It broke each cranium like a shell.
By twenty spears impaled, at length
The dreadful cat had been despatched—
A beast of such amazing strength
As Bengal tiger ne'er has matched!
