Immortal bard, whose voice is stilled in death, Who yet speaks on, his sacred dust acclaimed As one whose message far transcends his breath. He was an instrument divinely named To teach virtues of love and truth endure And though we hear no more his golden voice All nature's universal laws stand sure And they repeat the message of his choice. His deathless name lives in our hearts today Unscathed, in spite of Time's Immortal hand. He taught that truth should never pass away, That love should bloom again in Heavenly land: And he who voiced the truths of earth and sky Although he sleeps in peace. ... can never die. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CAMPUS SONNET: MAY MORNING by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET JOURNEY TO A KNOWN PLACE by HAYDEN CARRUTH BATTLE OF BRITAIN by CECIL DAY LEWIS THE SITTING by CECIL DAY LEWIS THE PASSING OF THE EX-SLAVE by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON ON A CERTAIN CRITIC by AMY LOWELL SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY: JUDGE SELAH LIVELY by EDGAR LEE MASTERS |
