IN ADMONITION by GRACE STILLMAN MINCK

First Line: THE HEAVY DRUG OF SYMPATHY PREVENTS
Last Line: BUT NEVER, AS YOU LOVE ME, LET ME KNOW!
Subject(s): PITY; SYMPATHY; EMPATHY;

The heavy drug of sympathy prevents
Extraction of the hidden elements
Of worth from pain and deep bereaving loss:
The wakened soul is greater for its cross.
Give me your pity if you'd have it so;
But never, as you love me, let me know!
