THE FIRE by JAMES MONAHAN

First Line: I WATCHED HER, WATCHED THE TREMULOUS FIRE
Last Line: AND BADE THE FIRE BE BRAVE.
Subject(s): DESIRE; HEARTS; LOVE; PASSION; RELATIONSHIPS;

I WATCHED her, watched the tremulous fire
come to her cheek, her hair,
then, fainting, fly from his desire;
poor lover who would not dare.

I told her this, my small conceit;
sedate, she turned, and grave,
then laughed and found the kisses sweet
and bade the fire be brave.
