REMEMBRANCE by JOHN RICHARD MORELAND

First Line: I HAD NOT NOTICED SCARLET HAW
Last Line: THE WIND-BLOWN TANGLE OF BRIGHT HAIR.
Subject(s): MEMORY;

I had not noticed scarlet haw,
Or copper leaf on elm or oak,
Until I crossed the dunes and saw
The wild gold of the artichoke.

Strange how for just a moment's space
The summer breeze that idled there,
Brought the lost beauty of her face,
The wind-blown tangle of bright hair.
