CITY SCENE: CHICAGO by GEORGE HERBERT NELSON

First Line: TODAY IN A DULL GRAY AFTERNOON
Last Line: WERE LIKE A SHOWER OF POLKA DOTS.
Subject(s): CHICAGO;

Today in a dull gray afternoon,
With threat of rainy weather soon,
I sat on a bus's top deck high
And watched the world go gliding by.

The pavement, like a ribbon black,
Stretched far ahead, a silken track
On which the taxis . . . yellow spots . . .
Were like a shower of polka dots.
