GORGEOUS DEATH by GEORGE HERBERT NELSON

First Line: THE PATH ALONG THE RIVER'S SIDE
Last Line: WAS DYING IN A FLASH OF GLORY.
Subject(s): AUTUMN; SEASONS; FALL;

The path along the river's side
Led onward through the flaming wood
Whose summer-green the chill had dyed
With hues of gold and flowing blood.

I looked and thought that, like a life
Of hero praised in ancient story,
Nature, still valiant in the strife,
Was dying in a flash of glory.
