ARBUTUS AND SPRING by HELEN M. PARSONS

First Line: WHAT DO YOU SUPPOSE? / ARBUTUS PINK!
Last Line: DON'T YOU THINK?
Subject(s): ARBUTUS; MAYFLOWERS;

What do you suppose?
Arbutus pink!
At the foot of an oak;
Where dead leaves broke
Up, in a crinkly mass.

There green and bright,
I found spring nestled tight;
Where she had slept the winter night,
In the heart of an Arbutus Bud.

No wonder perfume sweet
Wafted her to sleep,
When autumn grew rough,
And pelted her with leaves.

But I woke her,
As the buds began to swell on the trees
Then she wafted on the breeze,
Arbutus pink!
And people said;
"Why, it is Spring!"
Don't you think?
