A PORTRAIT by ARTHUR PETERSON

First Line: THOU DREAM OF BEAUTY, ROUND WHOSE CLASSIC / BROW
Last Line: OR SHASTA'S PEAK, OR FAMED YOSEMITE.
Subject(s): PORTRAITS;

Thou dream of beauty, round whose classic brow
The golden locks of Aphrodite twine,
Knotted behind, would I could paint thee thus,
Sitting serene, gowned in celestial blue!

A nymph of Greece; yet redolent of the soil
Of this, thy native land; autochthonous;
Splendidly fair as Napa's fruitful vale,
Or Shasta's peak, or famed Yosemite.
