Fair are the dreams one dreams of love,
Yet fickle, yet brief as youth;
I regard them coldly: I much prefer
The adult face of truth.

A hillside needs tree shadows
To pattern sunlight clearly,
And did he never waver, could
I love my Love so dearly?
